Welcome to the Cambridge Meisner Studio
“Act before you think - your instincts are more honest than your thoughts.”
The Meisner Technique is world renowned for being one of the most effective acting techniques taught today. Born out of the teachings of Konstantin Stanislavski in the early 20th century, Sanford Meisner used what he'd learnt to create his own technique using three tenets - repetition, emotional preparation and authenticity (improvisation) - in order to see actors 'living truthfully under imaginary circumstances'.
As humans, it's not always easy to truly listen and respond in everyday life let alone on stage. How often do we find ourselves in conversation, thinking about how we are going to respond without really listening to the person we are speaking with, unconsciously believing that what we have to say is more important than truly listening. Meisner felt that actors at that time were self-conscious and didn’t listen to each other, hence very little connection and natural behaviour being produced. Meisner's technique gives us the foundations and the bricks to layer a strong process to become sensitive to the people and the environment around us and respond accordingly.
Whether you're looking to begin, improve or polish your craft, the Cambridge Meisner Studio, using the principles of the Meisner Technique, offers adults an affordable way of experiencing the full process as Sanford Meisner laid it out.
